WORKSHOP DETAILS

Whether you have been a Prayer Minister for decades or are newly certified with a few hours under your belt, it doesn’t take much to find out that helping others find growth and healing in Christ can be challenging. During this 2-day intensive, you will learn more about God’s design to equip and sustain each of us as we minister to his people. Not only is this important for you as you grow in your capacity for care, it is important for your clients that you know how to identify complex trauma and the nuances in ministering to those affected by it.

The focus of this course will be aimed at supporting and educating counselors, pastors, life coaches, and prayer ministers.  In addition, any Community Caregivers are welcome to attend. We define Community Caregivers as: counselors, pastors, prayer ministers, social workers, school teachers, medical personnel, and first responders.

NOTES:

1) This will be an introduction for Melissa’s Advanced Course on complex trauma that will be offered online this Fall for Deeper Walk Certified Prayer Ministers.

2) This course is specifically designed for caregivers and, as such, not conducive to individuals seeking personal trauma work.

SESSION DETAILS

Friday – Small Steps Activate Big Results in God’s Kingdom

Session One – What God has Called You To Do:
Serving God is hard work, but sometimes we make it harder than it should be. Faith and works; abundant living and stressful situations; and a variety of other conflicts can make growing in spiritual maturity challenging at best. Get out of performance-based ministry and learn how your faith and works are meant to interact in this powerful session.

Session Two – Small Steps Lead to Big Results!:
God asks us to walk in obedience to his word and his instruction, but he did not make us responsible for the outcome. That is fully God’s responsibility. God excels in multiplying our efforts to bring more fruit than we could ever produce on our own. Avoid compassion fatigue and burnout by learning how to get the most out of every day when we let our small steps activate big results in the Kingdom of God.

Saturday – Trauma-Informed Care for You and the People You Serve

Session Three – What is Trauma?:
Learning to identify trauma is essential in ministry today. Every person experiences different levels of trauma throughout their life. Some are more obvious than others. We will discuss the various levels of trauma, how to identify a traumatized person, and how to avoid the effects of secondary trauma.

Session Four – Physical Responses to Trauma:
Identifying trauma is important, but not enough. After the effects of trauma have been identified, it is important to know how to help in both the short and long term. God not only designed each trauma response, but he also has a beautiful design to heal from trauma! As we learn God’s design for healing, we will be better equipped to help others and ourselves to grow and heal.

Session Five – Spiritual Authority and When To Use It:
God made us body, soul, and spirit. As we heal from trauma, we must include spiritual warfare. In this session we will discuss spiritual authority, generational inheritances, ungodly relationship bonds, and forgiveness using simple and effective prayers.

Session Six – Surprising Tools to Use in Ministry:
Addressing belief systems is essential for growth and healing in each and every person. Unfortunately it is often very difficult to identify the beliefs we carry, and it can be even harder to determine if those beliefs are true. There are many surprising tools that can be used to help people identify these beliefs and explore their validity.

Session Seven – Introduction to Dissociation and Trauma Coping Systems:
One of God’s designs for managing childhood trauma is severe dissociation. This design is rarely taught to social workers, church leaders, or even mental health professionals, but it is incredibly common. Learning the basics of this trauma response is essential for each and every person who serves people in our communities.
