Dan Allison lives in Eastern Iowa with his wife, Sarah. They are the proud parents of 4 amazing sons, 3 incredible daughters-in-law, and 6 fantastic grandchildren! Dan is the Founding Pastor of Crossroads Church, Peosta. Along with his wife Sarah, he currently teaches Faith Formation classes at Crossroads Church. They also lead women’s and men’s retreat weekends each fall, utilizing Deeper Walk’s content church-wide.

Dan’s role in the kingdom is “Catalyst” and the Lord has led Dan to catalyze engines that carry the gospel and healing of Jesus to others. This includes helping plant several churches in Eastern Iowa and starting multiple ministries both inside and outside the church. Dan currently serves as President of The Oak Grove Inc, a non-profit dedicated to helping people recover from the effects of childhood trauma. In addition to his ministry work, Dan has been working in the Retirement Industry for over 34 years. He also manages to find time in the woods, at his farm, and on the water, harvesting some of our lands’ most delicious fish and game.

Marcus Warner has served as president of Deeper Walk International since 2006. Marcus earned three degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School – M.Div., Th.M. Old Testament, and D.Min. He has written numerous books including his most recent title, Breakthrough! 5 Essential Strategies for Freedom, Healing, & Wholeness. An in-demand speaker, Marcus has spoken for both ministry and corporate groups across the country and around the world. A Bible teacher at heart, Marcus has taught Old Testament and Theology at the junior high, high school, college, and seminary levels. His passion is taking complex topics and making them practical and accessible for everyone.

Dr. Karl Payne received his Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry from Western Seminary, Portland. For over 40 years, Payne has trained people through his discipleship and apologetics materials. He serves as the Discipleship Pastor at Antioch Bible Church, is the Founder of the Transferrable Cross Training Foundation, and served as the chaplain for the Seattle Seahawks football team from 1994-2015. Karl has written books on transferable discipleship, Essentials, Apologetics, Leadership, and a book on spiritual warfare, Spiritual Warfare: Christians, Demonization, and Deliverance.

How Spiritual Warfare Works

In this opening session, you will gain a solid biblical foundation for understanding spiritual warfare, including: the unseen battle, key categories of spiritual warfare, and the the basis for the practices we teach related to permission and authority.

Spiritual warfare is all about activity in a realm we cannot see. It has been called “the invisible war” and “the unseen realm,” which can make it hard to know what is really going on. In this opening session, Marcus introduces background from the Ancient Near East and Intertestamental literature that informs our understanding of the spiritual world. He also explains the difference between several categories of spiritual warfare, with a special focus on the relationship between Christians and demons.

  • Learn key elements of the ancient near east worldview and how a biblical worldview corrects it.
  • Distinguish between several core categories of spiritual warfare ministry.
  • Clarify the essential principles and foundations of spiritual warfare ministry.

Biblical Foundations of Spiritual Warfare

This session will provide a straightforward, biblically grounded apologetic for spiritual warfare, helping you understand and explain the difference between spiritual oppression, demonization, and possession.

Within the Christian world there is often confusion and polarization around this topic. Some see spiritual warfare behind nearly every difficulty in life, while others dismiss it as outdated, exaggerated, or only relevant in cross-cultural contexts. Karl addresses those extremes with a clear and balanced biblical perspective.

In this session you will learn:

  • Five common reasons people offer to avoid or trivialize the subject of spiritual warfare.
  • Two popular paradigms often used to explain spiritual warfare.
  • A contextual understanding of numerous New Testament verses dealing with the topic.

You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation, the ground rules, and the conversational pattern used to check for areas of demonization like occult involvement, generational iniquity, unforgiveness, sin, and trauma.
